FRANK OLIVETO
Frank’s impressive career covers 40 years of automotive experience in both OE and the aftermarket, with 37 years related to the brake industry. In 2012 he became VP of Sales & Marketing for the UTIL Group America. Frank is a former Chairman of the Brake Manufacturers council, the Friction Materials Standards Institute, as well as a current FMSI board member and President of FMSI. Oliveto has held other key executive positions in the brake industry such as Former Vice President of Sales for ADVICS North America and Director of Sales for HAYES Lemmerz Brakes and Powertrain groups.
WHY I AM IN THE GBSC
I have been an advocate of safety and the environment while working on zero copper brakes as past Chairman of the BMC (including a White house visit on fighting counterfeit auto parts). OE auto makers are developing new brake systems focusing on safer and improved brake performance. These standards include brake pad corrosion. The North American aftermarket has become the wild west with no published standards reflecting the OE brake pad it is replacing other than the FMSI number indicating application. My concerns in the aftermarket brake environment include the lack of simple regulations in regard to stopping distance, banning the use of hazardous materials such as lead and asbestos, and inferior steel used to produce backing plates and hardware which may effect corrosion. Without regulation, we will continue to see the safety gap and brake performance widen as the soccer Mom/Dad unknowingly replace a well performing original equipment brake pad on the family SUV with an inferior aftermarket brake pad. It is important to educate and promote safety on replacement brake pads as we need to know what is in that box the soccer Mom /Dad is buying.

WHY I AM IN THE GBSC
In a constantly evolving automotive market it is our job as friction experts to give end users products which meet the highest standards of safety and environmental regulations. We should strive to drive those standards/regulations upwards to deter products reaching end users, which are not fit for purpose or worse still, are a danger to the general road going public. It should be our aim/duty as industry leaders to insist on legislation that promotes best practise and consistent product control.

WHY I AM IN THE GBSC
Globalisation of the marketplace, coupled with ever increasing pressure to shift to low-cost manufacturing centres emphasises the requirement for increased and consistent controls in what is fundamentally a safety critical industry. With a combined approach, the GBSC and its members should be striving to educate and advise legislative bodies on requirements for change and global alignment in order to further restrict the ability of poor quality and in some cases fraudulent manufacturers to deliver an unsafe product through to the consumer.
JASON JANSSEN
Jason has served the aftermarket brake industry for the past 11 years in various roles in sales, operations, and management. He currently holds the position of General Manager at ABS Friction, a Canadian based, premium brake pad manufacturer.
WHY I AM IN THE GBSC
I believe in the message and the goals of the Global Brake Safety Council and want to be a part of achieving them. It is my hope that the GBSC will continue to gain influence in the aftermarket and that the industry can be returned to some form of normalcy. I want to see the consumer not needing to be educated about the product on their car to be safe, but the industry taking the steps necessary to ensure it’s impossible to replace a component with another that is not safe.
